It is not unusual for transgender and queer women in rural Uganda to be victimised because of their sexual orientation or gender identity. Many women are tricked online to meet up with attackers, or beaten up by strangers. Many are blackmailed or extorted by landlords.
Because of this, they’re much more likely to become homeless or get arrested. They have little to no access to public services.
The Eastern Region Women’s Empowerment Organisation (ERWEO) is the first and only organization trying to change that, by helping transgender and queer women in rural Uganda to access safe housing and psychological support. But right now, they’re only able to help a tiny percentage of women who need it.
That’s where you come in. Donate today to help provide emergency resources to transgender and queer women who have survived assault in Uganda.
This campaign is being run in conjunction with ERWEO.
