TO: MALCOLM TURNBULL AND THE AUSTRALIAN PARLIAMENT

72% of Australians believe equal marriage is the way to go. Putting this issue to a public vote would be an immense waste of money and pave the way for a hateful public debate against gay and lesbian Australians.

Show the world that Australia doesn’t put the human rights of its citizens up for grabs.

I call on you to stop the plebiscite and to allow a free vote on marriage equality in parliament.

Update 7 November 2016: Great news: The plebiscite on marriage equality has been defeated for good after the Senate voted no on the legislation. All Out members helped stop this most pointless vote in the world and cleared the path to equality. Now to bring on a parliamentary vote on marriage equality!

-----------

72% of Australians believe equal marriage is the way to go. Most politicians believe it. The Prime Minister believes it.

So, why does the government want to spend $160 million to put that decision to a public vote? Nobody really knows, but what is clear is that a plebiscite will give anti-gay haters a great chance to spread their lies and hurt Australian LGBT people.

Very soon, the Australian government will decide if they will have an expensive, unnecessary vote on marriage equality. We can stop this madness, but it will take thousands of us to shame them and show the world how outrageous this decision would be.

Sign the petition and tell the Prime Minister and the parliament: do not host the most pointless vote in the world.
