To: Mayor Yordanka Fandakova of Sofia

We urge you to do everything in your power to protect citizens in the face of the upcoming anti-Pride protest. Local citizens should be able to attend the Pride march and move about the city without fear of an angry mob. Countries around the world have voiced their support for a peaceful pride parade in Sofia, Bulgaria. As the Mayor of Sofia we call on you to protect the countless LGBT people who fear attacks by the extremist organizers of the anti-gay protest.

Neo-Nazis throwing Molotow cocktails at peaceful gay pride marchers in 2008

Published June 25th:

Pride in Sofia, the capital of Bulgaria can be a dangerous thing. On their way home from Pride last year Mitko and a few of his friends were attacked by a group of anti-gay extremists and severely beaten in the street for marching at Pride.

Pride is set for this Saturday. We are running out of time to stop these same extremists from leading a hate-fueled protest the same morning of the parade - to gather and attack again.

Sofia's Mayor Yordanka Fandakova has the power to stop this protest from going ahead. Can you tell Sofia's Mayor to do everything in her power to protect Pride participants? We've only got 4 days until Pride - she needs to hear our voices now.
